Jammu, November 26

The Jammu and Kashmir Railway Police have arrested a constable for opening fire on his senior colleague following a heated exchange of words during duty hours.

The incident took place on Monday in the Pounthal area under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli police station when both the policemen were on duty at a railway tunnel on the Jammu-Udhampur rail track. The argument started over a petty issue and ended with three rounds of firing.

Officials said Constable Kulvinder Singh opened three rounds of fire on Head Constable Farooq Ahmed. Fortunately, none was hurt.

The Jammu and Kashmir Railway Police have arrested the accused constable and filed a case against him.

“The constable was under the influence of alcohol and had verbal arguments before the incident took place. We have arrested him and further investigation is underway,” said SHO Manwal police station (GRP). — OC
