All government hospitals in the district and drug stores are running short of anti-rabies vaccine.

“We can’t afford to go to Jammu or outside the state. My five-year-old son Saqib was admitted to hospital today, but the vaccine is not available,” said Mohd Razak from Behrote.

Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College Associated Hospital, Dr Suresh Gupta said vaccination supply had not been made in any hospital for the last two months.

Lovely Gupta, a drug wholesaler and retailer at Rajouri, said earlier, they used to get 150 anti-rabies vaccine per month, but now they had been getting only 10. He said the demand had increased to 500 vaccines per month.

J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd (JKMSCL) supplies anti-rabies vaccine to government hospitals. However, the supply has not been made for the last two months as Serum Institutes & Bharat Biotech has stopped production due to pricing dispute.

“The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has resolved the issue and the manufactures have started supplying the vaccine. It shall soon be available at government hospitals,” claimed S Mohan Kachroo, Assistant Controller of Drugs.
