Doda, September 27
Ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session where premiers of both India and Pakistan will be speaking this evening, a majority community in Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar observed shutdown against revocation of Article 370.
This was the second consecutive Friday today when traders of the Muslim community in Doda town shut their business establishments and expressed resentment.Doda followed the tradition started by a majority community in Kishtwar and adopted by people in Bhaderwah. Though some shops of the majority community opened in Kishtwar today, in Doda and Bhaderwah all shops, excluding medical and vegetable shops, remained closed for the day.
“After restrictions were lifted by the district administration, people felt it is the need of the hour to observe shutdown on every Friday. No one has given a call and traders on their own felt this need,” said a trader of Doda town.Since August 5, after the Union Government divided the state and revoked Article 370, National Conference (NC) district president, Doda, and former MoS, Home, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy is under house arrest and senior Congress leader Abdul Majeed Wani is not allowed to visit his home district and is confined to Jammu district only. Sources said the administration and the police were trying to know who the people behind giving the shutdown call were and were trying to trace them.
