The UT administration today said the second phase of the flagship “Back to Village” programme witnessed an overwhelming and substantial public participation across Jammu and Kashmir on the inaugural day.
In Srinagar, public meetings and field visits by designated gazetted officers held in eight halqa panchayats across four blocks of the district brought forth a range of genuine and specific grievances and developmental requirements of these areas.District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary chaired a public grievance redress camp which witnessed a large public participation.
In Kathua, the district administration claimed that the participation of villagers remained encouraging where the programme was set in motion, covering 72 panchayats across seven blocks of Kathua.“While the first phase of the programme focused on collecting feedback and assessing needs, the second phase intends to look more closely at the task of empowering, energising and institutionalising the functioning of the PRIs which will also associate panches and sarpanches,” Deputy Commissioner, OP Bhagat, said during a Gram Sabha in Bani.
Bhagat also announced Rs 15 lakh for solid waste management and assured them that the video-conferencing facility would soon get established at Bani for ease in doing government work.
According to an official spokesperson, the villages in Budgam wore a festive look as panchayats and other government buildings were decorated, while locals thronged their respective panchayats to interact with the visiting officials.
Similarly, officials also claimed that there was an “impressive participation” of people on the opening day of the six-day-long programme in other districts of Kashmir and Jammu regions.
